◆What is DNA?

DNA, which stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, is like a set of instructions that tells our bodies how to grow, develop, and function. It is a very tiny complex code that holds all the information needed for living things to survive and thrive.

All humans share approximately 99.9% of their DNA. The remaining 0.1% of our DNA differs from person to person; these differences account for physical characteristics such as hair and eye colour, as well as other individual traits.

◆Some usages of DNA

1. Crime investigation

DNA is commonly used to identify suspects or victims by analysing DNA samples found at crime scenes, such as blood stains and hair strands. This analysis can help link individuals to the scene of a crime or exclude innocent parties from suspicion.

2. Genetically Modified Food (基因改造食物)

DNA technology is used in producing Genetically Modified Food (GM food). By modifying the genetic makeup of crops, scientists can enhance desirable traits such as pest resistance, improved nutritional value, and increased crop yield.
